Scholarship Success

Octavia Allen and Former Superintendent Dee Morgan
Coming into Project Grad I really didn’t know what to expect. I heard guaranteed scholarship money so of course I came running! But, Project Grad became more than an opportunity to get monetary assistance for college but a chance to grow closer to my fellow students and to grow as a person. Project Grad provided us with the extra motivation and support to keep our GPAs high and make it through what some say are the best years of our lives.
I have been a part of Project Grad even before it entered Southview High School. I was one of the students chosen to represent our school at the National Convention to launch the program and receive the check to bring the program to life. Never would I imagine then what a large impact it would have on me throughout my academic career. The dedication that the Project Grad staff put in to ensure that we had successful experience was greatly appreciated. They were there through it all: The numerous college visits, the OGT prep, the college application and even the dreaded ACT and SATs. They were with us since we were freshman and they made sure we were on tasks with our grades, summer institutes, and other issues that affected our lives. They were like our second parents.
In conclusion, Project Grad was a unique opportunity that I will always be thankful for. Project Grad gave our class memories and experiences that no one else can boast. I speak for the entire 2007 class of Project Grad graduates when I say Thank You and we wouldn’t be the same without you.
